7 Benefits Of Facial Massager

It is a well-known fact that a massage is a wonderful form of physical therapy but it is less known that facial massage has similar effects on the skin. There are many benefits of facial massagers.

Going to a beauty salon for treatment can be pricy and time-consuming. It is also known that the things you do every day count most.

Purchasing a facial massager is a great decision. A good face massager will not only tone your muscles but also activate regenerative processes in your body, making the color of your skin more natural and healthy.

Beyond any doubt, a face massaging device will make you look much younger!

Benefits Of Facial Massager

What’s so great about facial massagers? First, facial massages are known to increase blood circulation in the face, which helps release collagen. You know that I mention collagen very often as the sufficient amount of collagen or lack of it makes the biggest difference between young and aged skin.

1. Supports collagen production

Collagen production can be supported with collagen supplements and also directly inside the skin through facial massages, which reverse signs of aging like wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin.

Not only lack of collagen but also chronic tension in your face is what makes lines and wrinkles appear. Facial massages relax your face muscles, relieving tension, and thereby reducing or eliminating the creation of new lines and wrinkles.

2. Releases Tension

Regular face massage will help you get rid of fine lines and wrinkles much more than creams. Quality skincare products that are suitable for your skin are important too, but facial massage works more under the surface. A tense facial muscle creates more stress on your skin thereby causing more wrinkles.

So a regular facial massage will help keep your skin muscles toned and relaxed, preserving your younger look. Massage your face for a few minutes every day and get rid of your worry, preventing the occurrence of new ones as well.

3. Keeps Muscles Firm

Taking a couple of minutes each day to stimulate and massage your facial muscles is important just like any fitness routine for your body. Just as you follow your regular weight lifting training sculpting the muscles on your arms or legs, you can stimulate and massage your facial muscles and keep them from sagging.

4. Stimulates Blood Flow

Regular facial massage from 10-20 minutes will stimulate help blood flow and oxygen flow.

Georgia Louise, a renowned esthetician who takes care of the faces of celebrities such as Katy Perry or Jennifer Lawrence explained to Stylecrazer how that works: “The pressure created by the massage technique helps move blood through congested areas, causing new blood to flow in.” That boost in circulation is what gives you the glowing look.

5. Enhances Product Absorption.

Massage will help your skin improve the benefits of any serum you apply before massaging.

Results of a 2017 study confirm that. Twenty women aged 65-75 with moderate to severe facial wrinkles applied an anti-aging cream to the face and neck using a sonic skin-massaging device for 8 weeks. A control group of twenty-two women, with similar ages to the first group, applied the cream alone.

Combining the massaging device with a skin anti-aging formulation delivered more improvement of fine lines, lifting, and stronger collagen growth than using the cream alone.

6. Detoxifies Skin

To get rid of the accumulated dirt, a facial massage with a massaging tool is the best bet for your dull and tired face. You can use a cleansing and exfoliating face massage brush that will promote the cleansing process. Face massage can detoxify your skin like is often done with a moisturizer or a serum for extra benefits. It helps to get rid of the product build-up that settles deep into your pores and unclogs them, contributing to blackheads.

The gentle moves on your skin help clear the deep settled impurities off, leaving the face clean and healthy. Also, if you have acne-prone skin, a facial massage (with soft motion) can prove to be a boon for you. As your skin detoxifies, rash or pimples can pop out but this will be only temporary. Getting rid of the toxins in your skin can help you get acne-free skin after a while.

7. Solves Under Eye Bags

Got dark under-eye circles, or puffy eyes? Face massage can be your solution to get rid of these unpleasant skin issues. Massaging your face regularly, in particular, the under-eye area will help you eliminate the under-eye skin issues.

Dark circles and puffy under-eye bags are a result of water retention in this area. Face massage releases the excess water build-up under the eyes, which results in removing puffiness and under-eye bags. The improved stimulation of blood flow also contributes to reducing the appearance of dark circles and an overall flawless and healthy skin wiping several years of your face.

Types of Face Massagers

Most of the modern massagers are handheld. They are quite easy to use and often have anti-slip handles.

There are hundreds of various types of face massagers, but they can be basically divided into two categories:

1. Manual (rose quartz roller, jade roller, non-electric massaging brush).

2. Electric (sonic, ultrasonic, ionic, LED. Some of these devices come with several brush heads).

Another category of manual face rollers is derma rollers. Unlike the crystal rollers or massaging and exfoliating brushes, derma rollers have to be used carefully.

Derma rollers or microneedling devices are very efficient in boosting collagen production but there are various sizes and not all of them can be used daily as they cause micro-injuries and the skin needs to heal before the next treatment.

Some of the derma rollers with longer needles can only be used by dermatologists.

Which type should you choose?

It depends on your preferences. If you like everything natural, you can try one of the manual massagers with crystals such as a jade roller. If you prefer high-tech devices working on a deeper level, you can go for LYFT 2.0, a face-lifting and firming device that uses BIOWAVE technology (the latest trend in skincare technology).

Additional Helpers

Before starting with the skin massaging, you should clean your skin and remove all makeup. Make sure your hands are perfectly clean, too.

After cleaning the face with your cleanser, use an anti-wrinkle serum. Serums with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. Both of these ingredients are important for collagen production.

A study suggests that hyaluronic acid (ingested) can help boost collagen production in the human body. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body, but it decreases as we age. It is believed that hyaluronic acid in topical products improve complexion and evens out fine lines and wrinkles, making your skin look more attractive.

Risk of Facial Massagers

If the facial massage is too strong, especially when you do a lot of stretching, it can be a lot of stress for the muscles and skin. This could lead to the early appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

That’s why you should never press too strong or pull the skin. Also never start massaging your face without using a serum cream or oil. The skin should never be dry.

Conclusion: Benefits Of Facial Massager

Massaging your face and neck with a face massager will help you increase the blood flow and support lymphatic drainage. It can reduce skin redness, offer firmness to the skin, lock moisture, and even out wrinkles and fine lines.

When used properly, it also reduces nasal congestion.

An additional benefit is in calming your mind and releasing stress. It is definitely better to massage your face for 10 minutes before you go to bed than starring on your computer. Adding a face massager to your daily skin routine, you will see a big difference when you look at your face in the morning.

  1. I had no idea that there were so many beneficial reasons for facial massage. It was also noteworthy that one had to be gentle in doing it and use a serum or cream to prevent damaging the skin.

Is it necessary to get training to give facial massages? Is it possible to give oneself a facial massage?

I can imagine, that when done correctly by another person, it can be very relaxing and stimulating.

Thanks for writing this very interesting article.

    1. It is definitely very relaxing when done by a beautician, Edwin. The idea of these facial massagers is for every woman to do it herself at home because the things we do every day have the biggest effects.

There are many tutorials on youtube how to massage the face with a jade roller or other face massaging devices. I’m planning to write about how to use them and maybe do some tutorial for my youtube channel as well.

  2. Great and amazing article that’s has taught me more on the benefit why I need a facial massage. I’ve had the opportunity to try one of this messaging devices and it is very relaxing and also eels like it gives you more energy. I believe it is more efficient than any creams.

    1. It really is very efficient and helps great deal in anti-aging. I believe regular massage with a face massaging device together with active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, retinol, vitamin C and matrixyl work together and I am so happy I know these things so that I don’t need to go for such solutions like plastic surgery. Everyday skincare works.

  3. I have been using a face massager for the past 7 months and it makes a world of difference, especially with an issue I used to have with eyebags, I used to look like I haven’t had any sleep the night before. The one I use is called Foreo Iris Eye Massager and it’s really good. Thanks for sharing!

    1. That’s nice to hear! These devices really work wonders, but it is about regular everyday “work.” That’s why I believe that using face massaging devices and good creams with active ingredients help more than a visit in a beauty salon once a month.

  4. I regularly message my skin with a jade roller because I found out it makes my skin color more natural. I massage my skin every evening and applying a serum and moisturizing cream and I’ve noticed a big difference on my skin. It really relaxes the muscles around the mouth and relieves tension. I don’t feel safe to use anything electric on my face so I use a jade roller.

    1. Crystal rollers are great to start with and also for younger women. I am 52 so I have to “fight” real wrinkles already 🙂
I’m happy you have such a good experience with a jade roller, Shanta. It seems like a simple piece of crystal and some people don’t believe it can work but it really does. And if you keep it in fridge, it is a nice feeling, very refreshing!

  5. I’ve heard of face massaging devices and was looking to get one for my wife as a present. The time my wife spends in the beauty salon has gradually become a thing of concern between us. Having an equipment like the LYFT 2.0 that can be used at our convenience and that takes care of her skin without damaging it will be perfect.

    1. I think a facial massager is a great present for any woman. Your wife will definitely be happy and you will save the money she spends in the beauty salon eventually. Happy I could help you choose.

  6. I must say I fancy this post a lot. In all honesty, this face massager of a thing can really help in the battle against face wrinkles. I like that there are also such benefits as relaxing of the muscles and relieving stress. It is much needed nowadays. I will share this with my friends.

    1. It is very relaxing and stress relieving, I can confirm that! Since I started massaging my face before going to bed, my sleep is better as well!

  7. For some months I am doing facial massage at home after I purchased a manual jade roller. When I massage my face with this roller, I feel so relaxed. It is helping to reduce my eye puffiness. As I have dark circles around my eyes so I was hoping that using the facial massager on a regular basis will help to reduce them. I have to say they are not completely gone but there is a big improvement!

    1. I am happy that you have a good experince with a jade roller on your undereye dark circles! I have never had problem with that but I started using a face massager because I wanted to stop wrinkles occuring on my forehead, around the eyes (crows feet) and between the nose and mouth. And it really works wonders, combined with good serums and creams. I’m very satisfied with the results.
Let me know how it goes with your dark circles. I’m sure it will improve much more!

  8. Hiya Lenka,

That was a very interesting read. I am in my late 40’s and have never really though about skin care. I don’t wear make up and haven’t since my 20’s as my skin is very sensitive. I really struggle to find moisturiser that doesn’t irritate my skin.

My daughter is a make up artist and I was thinking of saying to her that she should offer a face massage tutorial before doing someone’s face, do you think this is a good idea?

I think I would probably prefer to massage my face with my hands but my hands are quite painful so maybe an electric massager would be kinder to them. Is it possible to injure yourself if you don’t use the electric ones correctly? The derma roller sounds like a torture device and I just know I’d have an eye out!

Thank you for a very well researched article which has given me a lot of great information to think about, krs PurpleLioness

    1. Hey PurpleLioness,

I am 52 and can’t imagine not using any skincare, my face would be much more devastated! As to the irritation, it takes a lot of time and trying to find a moisturiser that would be suitable for you. It took me a long time too.

I think it’s a great idea that your daughter would offer a face massage tutorial. Many people enjoying being massaged in a beauty salon and don’t know how to do it at home, what moves to use etc. It’s not complicated, but someone has to explain it to you first. When you do it a few times yourself, you get a grip of it and find out that it’s quite easy.

Derma roller is a bit of torture 🙂 They stimulation collagen production in the bottom layer of the skin, that’s their purpose. The deeper reaching derma rollers can’t be used every day but I wouldn’t use any derma roller every day, after all it does cause micro injuries so the skin needs to heal first before being dermarolled again.

However, jade rollers or electric or ultrasonic face massagers work on thy lymphatic system and improve blood circulation so they are very kind to the skin. The only damage I can imagine would be if you work too harsh with them, severely pulling the skin, which could cause more harm than good.

  9. Very extensive and accurate article, face massagers look like a great product. Now, I know that mostly women use that kind of products, but I urge more men to start taking care of themselves, giving more attention to your body and skin doesn’t take a long time, but the difference is noticeable, and it makes you feel better as well!

    1. That’s so true, Victor, I think everyone should take care of their skin and overall health, we only have one body for all life and we should think what good we can do for it. It only takes a couple of extra minutes every day to see a huge difference. I’ve noticed really big changes after I started to take care of myself more, especially before going to bed. That plus a good night sleep works anti aging wonders!

  10. I had no idea that there are benefits from facial massage other than relaxation! I am a male, and I have noticed some lines on my forehead and the corners of my eyes.  They seem to have developed quickly! The information in your article is precise, and complete. One question – can facial massage devices be used on bearded faces as well?  Would I just avoid the beard area?  Thanks for a great article.

    1. Hello Jim, thanks for the question! In my opinion, there is no reason why one could not massage the bearded area, but the question is whether it is necessary. The purpose of massaging the face is increasing the blood flow thus preventing new wrinkles, promoting collagen production in the skin and, in some cases, shaping the face.

To massage a male face, I would just focus on the areas where wrinkles occur – like the forehead and around the eyes. That are normally the most affected areas regarding wrinkles. Another area is between the nose and lips but if you have a beard, these lines are not visible. Nevertheless, if you want, you can still massage these lines.

  11. Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful piece of information here with us. I must say I really did enjoy going through your review as it contains valuable information one can hold on to. Hearing about facial massages from a friend, I was curious about what was it good for and how to do it properly. Seeing these benefits one can achieve from using this I think it would be great to add this to my skin routine.

  12. Hello there! Thank you very much for sharing this article on 7 benefits of the facial massager. I’ve gone through it and it’s very educational and well detailed. I find it helpful because I like tips on how to make my skin better. Massaging my skin relaxes my muscles and gives me this relief. I usually use the jade roller to massage my skin every evening. Before I did it morning and evening but I found out instead of releasing stress, I was adding to it. Another reason I love the face massager is it helps to wear off wrinkles and that’s something I really don’t want.

  13. It’s really nice of you to share this article here, taking care of someone’s beauty is something that requires maximum care and persistence because you don’t want to use products or even do things that are gonna be dangerous to your health. The facial massager is a good device and I love how it is very beneficial to keeping a beautiful face.

  14. I occasionally massage my face by hand (I attended one massage course years ago), but these facial massagers have a more effective effect (I was at a beautician’s for such a massage some time ago, and the feeling for the skin on my face was really refreshing felt). Now with this article, however, I really thought about buying this massager because of all the benefits, the skin is aging and needs more and more attention.

    1. That’s what I feel as well. I’ve always taken care of my skin with good skincare but when I reached fifty, it’s started to get harder to keep the skin good-looking. I’m not into botox, fillers, and plastic surgery so there are limited solutions only. Facial massagers are a great almost natural alternative I’m happy with.
